Paupitz Track Bicycle 1960s

Heinz Paupitz is one of those framebuilders who are rarely known outside of Germany. But there is no one who knows him and does not admire his work or the person behind it. He had a long carreer in making frames, starting in the middle of the 20th century and working well up to an old age. When he closed his shop in Berlin Wedding, he started to get engaged in the professional education of young people in Eastern Germany surroundings of Berlin.
Heinz became pretty famous for the bikes he made in the 1950s to the 1970s and the crown jewel of them was the Paupitz track bike. In a time when bike frames often collapsed under harsh conditions and in crashes, Paupitz was proud to say that not even one of his frames has ever cracked. That is indeed remarkable considering that he made frames for the strongest riders. On his bikes European and World championships were won.
The traditional Paupitz frame trusted on Reynolds tubing and Nervex lugs. But the fork crowns were usually specially made for him. Just like on the bike we present you here.
On this bike, a young Adalbert Edlfurtner rode successfully in the Bavarian championships of 1971. The bike is a beautifully clean machine with lovely details, such as the nice lugs, the fork crown, the drilled seat post, soldered spokes and rare Scheeren Weltmeister rims.
