Pelà Classic Road Bicycle 1970s

Turin, a very industrial city of Northern Italy, was home of some of the best frame builders in the golden age of cycling. Not only worldwide known brands as Gios Torino, but also rather small artisans who worked outside the spotlight and who were renowned among enthusiasts for their fine, tailor-made steel frames.

Giuseppe Pelà is certainly of the most representative frame builders of the prestigious Torinese tradition. Not only he built frames for champions as Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil and Rik Van Looy, but also for famous brands as Gios Torino, Masi and Benotto. Particularly humble, Pelà never wanted his name branded on his frameset. Instead, he preferred to "sign" his works with some undeniable, refined marks which make every Pelà frame recongnisable amongst hundreds. It is said, he decided to do so in order to avoid any possible conflict of interests with his clients. So the typical Pelà signs are the four cut outs under the BB shell and the slots with a point in the middle on the fork crown.

This Pelà from the 1970s perfectly illustrates the austere elegance of his works. The Columbus SL frameset is jointed into meticulously filled lugs and shows – of course – the distinctive signs of the master: the four cut outs under the BB shell and the slots with a point in the middle on the fork crown.

This particular frame was built for Belloni, a bike shop in the city of Civitavecchia, and is fully equipped with Campagnolo Nuovo Record parts.
