Coming from a long manufacturing tradition, Peugeot started to build and sell bicycles in the 1880s.
What started with making salt and pepper mills turned to transportation by building 'penny-farthings'. It was a time when a cascade of innovations trickled down from engineer inventors to the manufactures and the mass markets.
10 years later, in the 1990s, Peugeot already had made itself a name in the bicycle business and made safety bicycles instead of the outdated high wheeler. And by 1896 the safety was followed by the modern diamond frames.
