Description
Turin has proved to be one of the most innovative and productive cities for artisan frame building in Italy. Connoisseurs and experts , will get a certain glance to their eye when they hear the name of humble masters like Giuseppe Pelà, Corrado Paratella and Angelo Picchio.
Angelo Picchio grabbed file and torch when only 11 years old. He first worked for Ernesto Francese in 1931 and later for Benotto.
After the Second World War, he started building his own frames which soon became famous amongst professional riders, including winners of the Tour De France, the Giro d'Italia and the World Championships.
All his frames were built either by himself, Giuseppe Pelà or Francesco Trentin, who had been a team mechanic for the Torpado team before.
Picchio bicycles always illustrated a particular attention to details, as the extremely fine lugs with cutouts which were inspired by old traditional Piemontese wood carvings from the late middle ages. Trivia: "Picchio" is the Italian for woodpecker, a wood shaping bird...
This Picchio Superpro Linea 90 shows Picchio's high standards in frame building at its finest. Made of Columbus SL tubes, it illustrates a most refined style. Cutouts, engravings and precisely filed lugs are clear indicators that this bicycle is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. The original paintwork reveals that the old Angelo was a friend of a modern and lively touch.
On the technical side, this road bicycle is equipped with one of the the best groupsets available at its time: a legendary Campagnolo Super Record.
The bike has been checked in our workshop and is ready to be ridden.
A rare, unique piece of fine bike manufacturing. Perfect for Eroica events!
