Description
Giovanni 'Nani' Pinarello, born in 1922, was one of a whole generation of athletes from child-rich families who chose a career in cycling. In the era of Coppi, Bartali and Bobet, he was quite a successful amateur rider with loads of won races. This eventually earned him a contract as professional rider.
The year of 1953 then saw him making his dream come true by using money, which he got as a compensation for handing over his starting place in the Giro, for the setup of a bicycle shop and manufacture in his hometown Treviso.
From then on Pinarello bikes became more and more famous, more and more refined.
In 1975 the company finally achieved its first Giro d'Italia victory. And today there are not many brands with a similar number of triumphs in big races.
And so we present one of thieir bikes: The frame of this bike is made of lightweifght and strong Columbus tubes in the main triangle and it shows some of the nice details we can expect from fine Pinarello bikes. Engraved lugs, chromed chainstay and fork, fancy cable routing through the bb-shell...you name it.
But it is the groupset which is really setting this bike miles apart from any ordinary bike of its era: The Campagnolo 50th anniversary groupset
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, Campagnolo released an initial number of 5.000 pieces of this extraordinary groupset. In the production they made an excessive use of titanium and golden emblems. And every groupset got its very own number engraved.
Number one went straight to Campagnolo's own museum. Number two was presented to the pope. In the meantime Campagnolo began to produce more of the sought-after anniversary groupsets to meet the expectations of the market. They just stopped when the number of 15.000 groupsets was achieved.
Here is number 7069, built onto a beautiful frame, basically forming the quintessential Italian Road Bike.
A Pinarello in great condition with a champagne golden paintjob, equipped with a groupset that is a collectible item by its own right - how much better can it get?
