Description

Umberto Scapin started building racing bicycles in 1957 in the Northern Italian comune of Piove di Sacco and dedicated his life to the production of high-end and refined steel frames. Having never pursued a mass market audience, original Scapin bicycles are incredibly rare and sought after amongst collectors worldwide.

Scapin frames were not only performance driven, but what sets them apart is the finishing beauty found in each project. Utilizing specially ovalised Columbus Air tubes and lugs, this NOS Scapin Airone Gold Plated Orovelato Road Bike from 1982 is possibly the best example of early 1980s frame building.

Being transferred in a time capsule into our age of 3D printed, carbon molded and synthetic materials, this time-trial steel frame was entirely built by hand and not only captured seconds from the clock, but also the hearts of anyone who laid eyes on it.
This striking bike is an elegant example of Scapin’s obsessive eye for detail. The specific and rare Columbus Air tubeset was used in an attempt to not only make the bike more responsive and aerodynamic, but also allowed for the aesthetic installation of internal cable routing. A beautiful mixture of form and function.

It is the finishing work on this Airone however which makes it even more incredible. A translucent green paint scheme sets the stage for dramatic gold plating adorning the lugs, seatstay and fork. Photos don’t do the bike justice as it gleams in the sunshine.

This bike which has never been ridden is equipped with the appropriate Campagnolo Super Record groupset, including the titanium tuned bottom bracket and pedals. With these parts, the bike's weight drops to 9kg which is exceptional considering it includes pedals and the heavy lugs.
Checked and carefully cleaned by our expert vintage bike workshop, your Scapin is ready to impress on any display.

If you can appreciate this pinnacle of steel design and artistic execution, this Scapin could be yours!
