Description
The early 1980s marked the first big wave of aerodynamic building in the bicycle industry. Oval-shaped tubes, shifters on the top of the down-tube, internally routed cables and aero components were the main features of the very first aero racing bicycles.
Just as this Scapin Airone from 1983 perfectly illustrates, the Scapin's top of the line specially designed for TT stages.
Umberto Scapin started building racing bicycles in 1957 in Piove di Sacco (Padua, norther Italy) and dedicated his whole life towards the production of high-end and refined steel frames. However not a mainstream brand, Scapin bicycles are nowadays really renowned among collectors worldwide.
As most of the Italian frame builders, Scapin committed to manufacture not only durable and performance, but also elegant and beauty frames, adjectives which must must accompany every Italian bicycle.
The frameset is the highlight of this Scapin Airone from 1983. Scapin customised Columbus SL tubes in order to make them able to host all cables internally. It is exactly this routing which makes the elegant silhouette of this Scapin Airone perfect.
Regarding the groupset, this bicycle is equipped with a Campagnolo Super Record groupset. Just the best of everything.
The bike is in original condition and underwent a complete check in our workshop: ready to ride.
