SOcietà MECcanica was founded in 1973 by Oliviero Gallegati in Lugo di Romagna (Italy). Being a rather small manufacturer, Somec did not produce many bicycles, especially in the beginnings. Besides perfect craftsmanship they became famous in the 1980s for the use of advanced tubings, refined lugs, incredible pantographs and their special paintjobs
Our Somec Air Classic Road Bike is one of the finest masterpieces of the mid 1980s.

As for the tubing it is a complete set of aerodynamically advanced columbus tubes.
The stays are slim and elegant and the top tube comes with an extra ridge to take in the rear braking cable. And that is not all, the shifting cables are also completely internally routed with the shifters being mounted on the top of the down tube for less draft.
The lugs are microfusion masterpieces with beautiful cutouts and engravings.
A translucent cromovelato paintjob on the shiny chrome plated surface completes this extraordinary frame.
Which groupset would fit such a brilliant piece better than Vincenza's all time hit, the Campagnolo Super Record? Consequently a gruppo is installed, turning our Somec into a dream machine.
Also exceptional is the cockpit which has been designed specifically as a combination of an aerodynamic 3ttt handlebar, Almarc leather cover and Modolo Kronos brake levers.
But what really tops this bike off and turns it into a marvel are the multiple super fine pantographs and millings.
The rear derailleur, the crankset, the stem, the shifters and the seatpost are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Some of the finest you could get in the 1980s.
Rare and collectible and in absolute top condition!
