The SOcietà MECcanica was founded in 1973 by Oliviero Gallegati in Lugo di Romagna (Italy). Being a rather small manufacturer, Somec did not produce many bicycles, especially in the beginnings. Besides perfect craftsmanship they became famous in the 1980s for the use of advanced tubings, lugs and their special paintjobs. A fame which they nourished by their flamboyant and technically perfect bikes.
Our Somec Elite Thron is one of those bikes. As the name suggest, the frame is made of racing level Columbus Thron tubes, which is a strong slightly oversized tubing. Columbus Thron lends itself to all sorts of use, classic lugged connections, TIG welding and fillet brazing, too. And what a frame Somec made from it. This heap of refine details shows many pantographes, elegant chromed stays, special brake bridge, finest fillets or the beautiful unicrown fork to name a few.
Our Somec stems from the mid 90s and it is equipped with Shimano Dura Ace parts with 8-speed STI shifting on the bars.
This bike is an example of the highest level of 90s frame design and it is a good choice for serious riding.
