Description

SOcietà MECcanica was founded in 1973 by Oliviero Gallegati in Lugo di Romagna (Italy). Being a rather small manufacturer, Somec did not produce many bicycles, especially in the beginnings. Besides perfect craftsmanship they became famous in the 1980s for the use of advanced tubings, lugs and their special paintjobs. A fame which they nourished by their flamboyant and technically perfect bikes.

Our Somec MS is one of these fine masterpieces.
As for the tubing it is a complete set of Columbus Multishape. Everything about this tubing is a bit more special, and it makes for frames with splendid riding qualities.

On this tubeset, every single part was shaped differently to optimize functionality. Of course the lugs had to have a specific shape, too, to fit over the tubes.
Look at that triangular left chainstay, the downtube and the bottom bracket shell, for example!
Producing Multishape tubesets was pretty expensive, as was making a frame out of them because it took some time fitting all the joints. So MS was replaced after some years by oversized tubes.

A superb paintjob with fades, cross fades and typical Somec airbrush colours completes this extraordinary frame.

Which groupset would fit such a brilliant piece better than a Campagnolo one? Consequently a complete Campagnolo Chrous Gruppo is installed, turning our Somec into a dream machine.

But it would not be a Somec if there was not a bit of extra glamour:
the stem has been extensively pantographed, stays are chromed and the wheelset is a beautiful deep-dish Campagnolo Zonda.

Rare and gorgeous and a stunning ride on top!
