Description
The SOcietà MECcanica was founded in 1973 by Oliviero Gallegati in Lugo di Romagna (Italy). Being a rather small manufacturer, Somec did not produce as many bikes as the more famous competition, especially in the beginnings.
However Somec made up for the lacking numbers by sheer quality of the frames. The standard to which it produced every frame was almost second to none as our Somec Special from approximately 1978 illustrates.
The frame made of light Columbus SL tubes has the typical cutout lugs, engraved Somec logos and the beautiful cranked brake bridge known from high class Somecs from the late 70s. It has been professionally refurbished and it now shines in deep red painjob.
As truly premium bicycle our Somec cannot be fitted with nothing less then the best groupset available at that time. Campagnolo Super Record gruppo runs like a clockwork and is in sweet condition. An eagle eyed observer can also spot the rare Campagnolo front derailleur with four holes and narrow clamping band, produced for a brief moment in 1978.
This rather small sized gem of a bicycle feels great on a road and it really brings the 1970s riding sensations to these days. And because of the great condition of the frame and parts as well as the carefull work of our mechanics you can now fully enjoy it.
