Superia Gemini AX Classic Road Bike 1981

Superia was founded by Remi Claeys. He was one of four brothers who since 1926 produced Flandria bikes. After some differing opinions made it difficult for Remi to move on together with his brethren, he started a separate business in the early 1950s, the Remi Claeys NV/SA. It stayed a family business until 1979 when it changed ownership for the first time.

Superia were famously Sponsors of the Solo team, the mid-60's version of Rik van Looy's "Red Guard." Solo was also Eddy Merckx's first pro team. The Champions Rik van Steenbergen and Patrick Sercu, too were among those who raced for Solo Superia.

Our Superia Gemini AX comes from a time when the Japanese bicycle industry rocked the market with excellent quality products and out-innovated the old European champions. The Dutch and Belgian bicycle manufactures were some of the first to discover the advantages of the new components and consequently outfitted their bikes with them. Ishiwata 022 for example, was a typical double butted tubing of a CroMo steel that was of the same quality as Columbus and was delivered to the frame builder with an even better finishing.

The Shimano Shimano 600 Arabesque, was developed as one of the early attempts to shape bikes in order to save watts. It features the famous Dyna-Drive Pedals which create a slightly different and lower position without reducing cornering clearance. Thus this 54cm frame is comparable to a normal 56cm frame.

Completely checked in our workshop. Tires, cables, chain, bar tape are new. The bike is ready to ride.
