Description
While many bicycle builders have been offering different quality ranges to meet the expectations of a wider circle of customers, Irio Tommasini has never done anything alike.
The artisan frame manufacture from Grosseto, Tuscany knows nothing but one category of frames - top class. And what else would you expect from someone who worked together with the giants of frame building Faliero Masi and Giuseppe Pelà?
His expertise and relentless quality-oriented craftsmanship found him fame and fans all around the globe, as did his beautifully executed frames.
Just as our Tommasini Tecno Extra - racing frame which bonds both performance and aesthetic qualities. It comes from the 90s, when steel frames were passing the torch of racing material of choice to aluminium and carbon fiber. Some manufacturers were facing a dilema of going with the flow and switch to new materials of to stick to what they knew best and perfect it. And so one of the best performing steel bikes were made, just as our Tecno Extra.
To be able to hold a candle to carbon and aluminum frames, it had to be exceptionaly light and rigid. This was acchieved by using custom version of Columbus Genius tubes, which were round but of rhombic shape at the ends, where they were TIG welded together. Another details like the lugged dropouts or the robust (and beautiful) seat cluster add to the rigidity too. To further stenhthened the area around the bottom bracket and keep the weight down, the seat tube has slightly conical shape, thicker at the bottom and tapering upwards. And the unicrown fork with simple Tommasini logos is just as elegant.
Our Tommasini has been equipped with Campagnolo Record parts with 8-speed Ergopower shifters on the bars, Mavic rims, Flite Titanium saddle and the ITM cockpit.
An advanced 1990s road racer which not just looks great, but rides like a dream too.
