Description
While many bicycle builders have been offering different quality ranges to meet the expectations of a wider circle of customers, Irio Tommasini has never done anything alike.
The artisan frame manufacture from Grosseto, Tuscany knows nothing but one category of frames - top class. And what else would you expect from someone who worked together with the giants of frame building Faliero Masi and Giuseppe Pelà? But what do you do if people keep asking you to build a bike who are on a tight budget? You simply design a bicycle which does not compromise on performance or looks while still being more affordable than your top model.
Tommasini did so in creating the 'Racing'. A frameset which comes in standard roundish Columbus Cromor tubing. Cromor was actually pretty popular due to its greater stability in sprints and descends compared to Columbus SLX for example. All this by offering practically no weight difference and being cheaper.
This particular Tommasini Racing dates back to the 1980s and fits perfectly in the line of legendary bikes built in the Italian factory in Grosseto.
It wouldn't be a true Tommasini without an extravagant paintjob. And it shows! In this case it's a very elaborate one with a striking marble-effect. The frame is fitted with beautiful Campagnolo Athena parts. There is one exception though, it's the wheelset, which is based on the top C-Record hubs. Checked in our workshop, this bike is ready to deliver performance and ride pleasure the kind of which you would expect from a serious 80s racing machine.
And of course this bike is Eroica eligible!
