Description

The Italian region Emilia Romagna was extremely fruitful when it comes to masters of frame building. From the biggest names to tiny workshops where one of the most refined bikes ever were made. One of them, in a small town of Russi, belonged to Diego Vitali. Born in 1924, we was fascinated by bicycles and eingeneering in general from a small age. Just as he finished the basic school, he started as a mechanic in the local workshop, where he soon managed to built his first frame.

As a true perfectionist, Vitali was annoyed with the slightest of flaws. During his long career, he has built around 3000 frames, all by his hand and with his soul. He claimed that he treated all of them as they were for him presonally, therefore perfect. Thuth be told, it really shows in his work. From the masterpieces from the 40s and 50s to modern TIG welded frames, he was attracting more and more attention. In 1968 he was hired by team Salvarani / Chiorda as a mechanic and he followed the squad around the star Felice Gimondi to all important races. Let it be an evidence of his reputation as a frame builder, that in the off-season he has built all of the team bikes for the next years's race calenar.

Our Vitali stems from the 1980s and as you would expect, it's a gem. The frame made of Columbus SLX tubes shows the skill of his bulder in many fine details. It arrived in our shop in great condition, and the refined paintjob made by another master craftsman Mario Martini is almost spotless.

Such a bike deserves appropriate parts and this one is equipped with a full Campagnolo Croce d'Aune groupset with Delta brakes. And the rest is not less fine at all. From FIR Aliseo wheelset, 3ttt Cockpit, Benotto tape, NOS Iscaselle saddle to the racing level Vittoria Corsa CX tires, it's a festival of mouthwatering cycling delicacies.

This masterpiece with soul is worthy of any bicycle collection, but at the same time riding it will make your day.
