There are just a few collaborations in sport between a brand and a star that are comparable to that of Adidas and Eddy Merckx. The great "Cannibal" endorsed cycling shoes of this German brand so well, that they became and instant icon and pretty much everyone wanted a pair. Or two. And this popularity (but also sheer quality and great looks) resulted in prices that were not far from extreme.
In the late 60s and then 70s, he triumphed basically in every possible race in a black leather Adidas shoes. Adidas continued to produce cycling shoes under his name also after Eddy hang his bike on a nail and in 1980s some extremely cool and colourful designs were produced. Just like these.
