Description
The story of Giuseppe "Pino" Faraca is one of great talent and sudden fall. Pino grew around bicycles and it was his father who showed him how wonderfull cycling can be. But at the same time he had an artistic soul and later graduated from an art school. Giuseppe started to race at young age and had immediate success. Being a boy from financially poor Calabria, it was not easy to carry on and further develop his talent. After learning some first racing skills in a youth amateur team in his home town Cosenza, he was hired by much bigger team GS Passerini Colnago from Lombardy in 1979 where he was able to win 27 (!) races in a short time. For the 81 season, Pino was hired by a very strong team Hoonved - Bottecchia. Immediately he was set to race the most important race for an Italian cyclist - Giro d'Italia. And guess what. He won with his team the time trial of the first stage and when the race ended, he manged to win the white jersey for the best young rider, to end 11th in general classification and to overshadow his team captain Beccia and future stars like Saronni or Argentin in the process.
He was immediately considered a future grand tour winner and a bright star. Due to the stunning display, he was picked by the national team to race in the World Championhips in Prague that year. But after this phenomenal rise became even steeper and sudden fall. During the preparation race Giro del'Apennino he fell disastrously and woke from a coma days later. His career should never be how it once was. After years of struggle and trying hard to match his previous achievements, Pino retired from racing in 1986. Still passionate about cycling, he opened his Art gallery in the center of Cosenza where he was displaying also his works often with racing motives.
Here we present you this genuine Bottecchia racing bicycle which belonged to Giuseppe Faraca when he was still racing for the team Hoonved - Bottecchia. It stems from 1982 and it is equipped with original team Mavic, Modolo and 3ttt parts. It sports a vintage Bottecchia - Malvor paintjob, which at some point had to replace the original black and white paint scheme for some unknown reason.
A stunning piece of cycling history which is also a fascinating example of fine frame building and cycling technology in the early 80s.
