Description
Colnago has always been a very creative frame designer and the evolution of the Mexico series perfectly illustrates this. First released in 1972 to celebrate Eddy Merckx' world hour record, the Colnago Mexico was slightly different from the Colnago Super - built with even thinner Columbus tubes - but shared with that glorious bike the aggressive racing geometry: short, light and very stiff. The second step was the Colnago Nuovo Mexico first released in 1982 and continued in the year 1983 with minor differences. It was built with profiled Columbus SL. This bike was followed by a shortly built Nuovo Mexico model with four crimps on the downtube
Then the peak of this remarkable design evolution was achieved in the second half of the 1980s when the profiling of tubes culminated in the Colnago ESA Mexico, a bicycle that hit the market with a very distinctive six-crimps tubing designed by Columbus in collaboration with Colnago. The result was a stiff and light frameset with an aggressive racing look.
We are happy to present to you a Colnago Esa Mexico in great condition. The frameset is equipped with an absolute set of jewellery regarding groupsets. It is the famous Campagnolo 50th anniversary gruppo.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company, Campagnolo released an initial number of 5.000 pieces of this extraordinary groupset. In the production they made an excessive use of titanium an golden emblems. And every groupset got its very own number engraved.
Number one went straight to Campagnolo's own museum. Number two was presented to the pope.
In the meantime Campagnolo began to produce more of the sought-after anniversary groupsets to meet the expectations of the market. They just stopped when the number of 15.000 groupsets was achieved
We think that the groupset gives this Esa Mexico the special touch which turns a great bike into a perfect one.
This machine is as good a ride as it is a spectacular piece to look at.
