Description
The Diamant bicycle factories have existed under a few different names since their creation in 1885 and throughout their history, they have been a major manufacturer of bicycles, especially in the GDR (German Democratic Republic) era. In the GDR, all professional cyclists initially rode Diamant bicycles. Thus, the Road World Championships in 1959 Täve Schur and 1960 Bernhard Eckstein were won by GDR cyclists on Diamant.
In the 1950s, Diamant was technically and visually at the cutting edge with touring, sports and racing bikes. A remarkable development was the filigree round fork, with which Diamant was even ahead of western sports bikes. Our bicycle was produced at the tail end of this golden era and in the course of the reorganisation of the GDR bicycle industry, RENAK was commissioned with the development of a 5-speed rear derailleur. After RENAK had completed this development, another renaming of the Diamant racing bikes followed for the 1961 season. And so the Diamant Modell 35 range was born.
The bicycle that we present here is the Diamant Modell 35 706, we have modernised the bicycle while keeping with its vintage aesthetic, we have equipped it with more up-to-date components that are providing extra comfort and will be working to a modern standard. All in all this bicycle is perfect for the modern cyclist that offers a vintage feel.
