Description
Francesco Galmozzi can be certainly enumerated among the best frame builders of the prestigious Milanese tradition. Thanks to an investment of Artemira Gerbi - daughter of the famous cyclist Giovanni Gerbi, aka "Il Diavolo Rosso" - Galmozzi was able to found the brand Gloria 1922. It was the period in which he manufactured the "Garibaldina model". A few years later, he joined the company Cicli Magri, which he eventually acquired in 1938 and by this founded his own brand: Cicli Galmozzi.
According to his name, Mr. Galmozzi developed his logo: a rooster on a hub. Funny enough if you know that "Gallo" in Italian means rooster and "Mozzi" means hubs!
Mr. Francesco Galmozzi did not produce overly many bicycles. He was actually more of a tailor, an artisan incredibly good at manufacturing custom to meet customers' measures and needs. His son Angelo joined the family business in 1959 and their atelier in Via Melchiorre Gioia in Milan soon became a hotbed for some of the finest Milanese racing bicycles.
Memorable was the Galmozzi Specialissima from 1961, a bicycle which led Rik van Looy - Faema Team - to his second World Championship!
This Galmozzi dates back to the 1960s and has been professionally refurbished. It features some typical Galmozzi details like a line through a circle motif on the head tube lugs and fork or the typical seat lug cluster. Galmozzi, as one of the benchmarks of Italian frame building, was often imitated and sometimes even plagiarized. To address this problem, in 1949, Francesco started to implement some hidden details to his frame to be able to distinguish the real deal. One of these was the stamping of the tubes "Galmozzi Super Competizione" under the paint and you can still recognize it on our bike on the head tube right below the head badge.
This stunning bike is equipped with the original parts. A mixture of top range Campagnolo Nuovo Record & Record Parts, Universal brake, Ambrosio cockpit, Nisi rims or the Brooks saddle.
Elegant, exquisite and rare - a great choice for true classic bicycle connoisseurs.
