Description
Established in 1923 Motobécane was one of the most famous French manufacturers of bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, and other small vehicles. "Motobécane" is a compound of "moto", slang for motorcycle; "bécane" is slang for "bike."
They became more known to the international public by sponsoring professional teams and winning the Tour de France with their typical orange and later blue machines. But they also tried to introduce innovative frame designs - just like they did with the Motobecane Profil 3.
The Motobecane Profil was an icon of the 1980s aerodynamic bicycle boom. Tested in Motobecane's wind tunnel, the bicycle was designed for low wind resistance and efficient air penetration at high speeds.
This was managed by using oval-shaped Aero 2040 steel tubes which were internally soldered. Profil 3 was the last evolution with some improvements of which the most significant is the elegant and also aero-shaped front fork. To hone the aerodynamics Shimano 600 groupset was installed and it even includes the original pedals with extra large bearings, an internally clamped Ax stem.
This exemplar is painted in the original deep blue colour and is furthermore in excellent condition since the bike was ridden just briefly.
Condition
Used. Used. The bicycle is in good condition. The frame has no cracks, no dents and is not bent. All parts have been checked and are working fine. The bicycle went through a full checkup at Steel Vintage Bikes workshop! All parts were disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled again.
