Description
Nishiki was a bicycle brand created by the West Coast Cycle - one of the most successful American companies in the business. In the 1960s, the company started to look overseas, specifically Japan, to find high quality production for their bikes. The boss of the company visited many dozens of factories before choosing the Kawamura Cycle in the city of Kobe, Japan. The bikes were at first distributed under the name "American Eagle", later changed to Nishiki after the special thread woven into Japanese ceremonial wedding kimonos.
Nishiki bikes were produced in quite wide rage of models and levels and distributed basically all over the world - in the US, Canada, Europe and even Australia. Because of the monetary instability in the late 80s, the production has been moved from Japan to Taiwan.
This Nishiki Windcheater time trial bicycle stems from 1986 and it is one of the bikes produced for the European market still in Japan. At the fist glance, it is clear, that this is a serious racer. Designed for speed in time trials, it was given an aggressive geometry with a forward sloping top tube and a little 24" front wheel. A defining feature of this frame are the seat stays though, or more accurately how they attache to the top tube. This solution makes the frame triangles effectively smaller and thus even more rigid. The frame is made of high quality Tange 1 double butted tubes, comparable to SL model in Columbus offering.
The frame certainly is a looker, but the parts do not fall behind. It is a 100% Japanese blend. Shimano 600 (6200 series) makes for a solid and great performing base, but you will be able to find some more exotic stuff too. Dia-compe took care of the braking with a pair of beautiful Aero C300G calipers, the cockpit is made by Nitto, wheels consist of smooth rolling Sansin Gyro Master hubs and Araya Aero 4 rims, Sakae seatpost, Hatta heaset and it go on and on. Only exception is the Italian saddle and a pair of brand new hand made Tufo tires.
Completely checked by our mechanics in Berlin, this bike is ready for a fast ride.
Condition
Used. The bike is in good condition. Some minor signs of normal usage. The paint and decals are original, showing some flake-offs and scratches on the down side of the down tube. The frame has no dents, cracks and it's not bent. All parts have been checked and are working fine.Bicycle Size
