Description
The Italian brand Olympia was founded in 1893 by Carlo Borghi. In 1959 the brand was subsequently acquired by Antonio and Pasquale Fontana who at that time already owned the brand Sanremo, among the others. The company is nowadays located in Piove di Sacco (Padova) and since 2013 has also owned the Scapin brand.
The particular Olympia is built with a light and sturdy Columbus SL tubing and illustrates extremely refined details such as the engraved head tube and lugs, typical indicators of a handcrafted steel frame of the best Italian tradition. The head tube is also chromed, detail quite typical for top class Olympia bicycles from the 70s and early 80s. And details are in fact what this fine bicycle is all about. From delicate Zeus dropouts to the last piece like the chain hanger on the seat stay, everything indicates meticulous care.
Our Olympia, although almost 50 years old, still sports the original light salmon paintjob, which shows nice patina.
Regarding the components, this Olympia is equipped with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record Gruppo with many Olympia pantographed parts. The precisely drilled brakes and brake levers are also worth mentioning.
Very elegant and classic looking bicycle indeed.
