Description
Umberto Scapin started building racing bicycles in 1957 in Piove di Sacco (Padua, northern Italy) and dedicated his whole life towards the production of high-end and refined steel frames. However not a mainstream brand, Scapin bicycles are nowadays really renowned amongst collectors worldwide.
Like most Italian frame builders, Scapin is committed to manufacturing not only durable and performing frames but also elegant and beautiful ones, adjectives which must accompany every Italian bicycle. Some of the finest and most elegant bikes of the 1980s were made by Scapin.
They started to open a new chapter when in the 1990s they started to sponsor off-road and road pro teams. New materials entered the bicycle sector and Scapin had two choices: Either go with the trend and try to work out how to produce frames from aluminium, carbon fibre, and titanium, or build the most advanced steel bikes they could.
And they went with steel, as they already knew really well how to work this material.
Scapin also invested extensively in the rapidly growing MTB market. The choice of models for off-road riding was wide yet all of them were high-end products. Our frame is made of lightweight Columbus steel tubes, and both welding and brazing have been employed here. Most of the connections are TIG welded, but the bottom bracket is semi-lugged.
The equipment is equally fine, and nothing less than the top-of-the-line Shimano XTR has been mounted. Almost all the parts are brand NEW so in connection with a very well-preserved steel frame you may expect a ride with no compromises.
If you are looking for a refined vintage bike with top-level equipment, this one is for you.
