Description

Tommasini steel frames and bicycles didn’t chase trends. While some manufacturers lured their customers to the next “revolution” in the industry, Tommasini was a cornerstone of Italian cycling heritage. He created road bikes for road cyclists.

Beginning in 1948, Irio Tommasini began his craft and refined it under legendary frame builder Giuseppe Pelà.  A former racer himself, Tommasini understood what was needed to get the most out of the material. This focus allowed him to hone his skills as an artisan, and ignore the buzz of industry trends. His unique approach quickly earned him the respect of other racers looking for expertly made machines.

Growing the production in the 1970s allowed his work to reach an audience abroad who realized the exceptional quality of his studio's work.

He started to market his frames under the second brand name Thomas for some years because he thought the name was catchier for people who did not speak Italian. When he realised that this was not necessary at all, Thomas bikes disappeared again and are now a bit of a rarity.

Our Thomas bike resembles in many ways the classic bike designs of the late 1960s. The beautiful fork crown is a reminder of the attention to detail given to each piece of this bicycle. Together with the bottom bracket it also is a statement that the heritage of Pelà was not forgotten.

The bicycle is set up for the perfect Eroica experience;
-Puncture resistant, Continental Gatorskin tyres.
-Clincher rims, easy to change the inner tube in case of a puncture.
-Rear cassette with 28 teeth, perfect for climbing hills.
-Padded handlebar tape, comfortable over long distances.
-Mounted bottle cage.
-Caged pedals.

Condition

Used.   The bicycle is in good condition. The frame has no cracks, no dents and is not bent. The paintwork and decals have been professionally refurbished. All parts have been checked and are working fine. The bicycle went through a full checkup at Steel Vintage Bikes workshop! All parts were disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled again. The frame was checked for structural integrity and all wearing parts were replaced with new ones (Chain, tyres, bartape, cables). You can expect the bicycle in fantastic riding condition and ready to go for your vintage bike ride.

SVB quality and attention to detail is second to none! Fantastic customer service, very accommodating and helpful. An error was made in delivery and the SVB team efficiently sorted the problem the same day. I was gifted the original item and sent a brand new item, dispatched the same day. Lovely products and very helpful staff. 5*

Just bought a second vintage classic bike from Steel Vintage. A great bike at an excellent price and they couldn't have been more helpful. Their fantastic service was every bit as good as before.
Placed the on-line order late on Saturday evening and the bike was delivered to me here in the UK the following Thursday morning.

Geeky Eroica Cool. I bought the "old-school" Italian made bike shoes. They were delivered in good condition and in a quick timely fashion. They're geeky cool, just like I hoped and they're put together very well (stitched nicely, no glues where it shouldn't be) light and fit properly!

Steel Vintage Bikes are such an excellent company to deal with. They are passionate about vintage steel bikes. They have in my opinion very fair prices and very obliging to deal with. Packaging is great and no hassle even for delivery way down here in New Zealand.

The overall service provided by Steel Vintage Bikes is always first rate. Delivery and packaging is always timely and well done. I cannot fault Steel Vintage and have been a customer for a number of years.. Plan to get to Berlin hopefully in the near future, stop in for a some Kaffee und Kirchen and a bike geek mooch around the shop.
